For all you folks who aren't aware of this project ( which would be the majority of you ), I would like to start a thread here to discuss various aspects of my upcoming project which is currently for Dungeon Siege 1, but, will ultimately end up being for Dugeon Siege 2 : DSMMORPG.
The idea is to turn Dungeon Siege into a massively multiplayer online role playing game ... a persistent world. Many of you may be asking "But how is this possible?" The short answer being "Writing an entire game ( less the graphics engine ) from scratch and then interfacing it with Dungeon Siege as the client."
Back in the summer I ran a test for this where I had 22 players connected to the game simultaneously. The coding was very simple, and since then I have entirely recoded the engine. What could you do ingame? Well, since I have to recode the entire game from scratch ( less the graphics engine ) the answer was "Not Much." All players were stuck in one region of a map and the only thing you could do was run around, chat ( with cool bubble text I may add ) and wave.
I am at a point where I have finished coding up what I am calling "The Multi Frustum" which means that all players would no longer be stuck in one area, they would be free to roam a large map. Still no combat, still no items, still nothing except running around and chatting ( with bubble text ). Well some people say "So the ONLY thing you have completed since summer was enabling a 'Multi Frustum'?" By playing the game, it would appear so, but ... the code has been completely redone. Also, the "Multi Frustum" is not to be under rated as it will most likely be one of the most difficult tasks in creating DSMMORPG.
To the point :
I would like to run a "Stress Test" on my server to see how the "Multi Frustum" holds up with 50+ clients in a single game. What I am asking is for people willing in the next week or two to download a little mod, install it, and then join the game when we are ready. *
I must make a few things clear
-> This is NOT dungeon siege the way you think of it, this is an entirely new game which merely uses the graphical engine of dungeon siege which means that when you say "Hey how come I can't do ... " the answer is "Because it is NOT dungeon siege, it merely uses the dungeon siege graphics engine."
-> There are NO items in the game yet, I have not coded items into the game fully yet
-> There is NO combat in the game yet, I have not coded combat into the game yet
-> There aren't even statistics in the game yet! I have yet to code those in
-> BUT -- Do not worry, I will code this all in
So you may ask "Well what is there?" and I have to reply "Running around a map and chatting." So why play? You will be there near the beggining of a new and exciting project ... a Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game for Dungeon Siege! Think, no more 8 player limit! Remember those annoying loading screens whenever a player joins the game? They are GONE! A FULLY PERSISTENT WORLD!
