WHY   does everyone have the best of the best?

i have an HP 9900
with 512MB ram
48X CD drive
48X DVD dRIVE
P4 1.5 GHz processer
Nividia Gforce3 Ti 500
6 fans
120 GB hard drive
3 years old

ITS NOT THE BEST......but it still manages to play the latest games, somehow  :P <_<

I built mine. Though my parts aren't all great, if anything they suck compared to today's new releases. Anyway, here are my specs.

MSI Motherboard w/ nForce chipset (old)
AMD Athlon XP 1700
512 MB DDR RAM PC1600 (old.... and weak)
nVidia GeForce FX 5200 PCI (that's right, PCI, not AGP)
60 GB Hard Drive 7200 RPM (most decent part in my system)
4x/2x/32x CDRW Drive (weak huh?)
24x CD-ROM Drive

Yeah.... I need an upgrade. Actually, I just need a whole new system. I wouldn't mind a DFI board. :P

PS - dungeonmaster, 48x DVD ROM does not exist. That's prolly the CD read speed, 16x is max for DVD read. Also, I don't consider Intel to be the best. Of course, we all have our opinions.

Also cd rom x speed and dvd x speed do not directly compare. For example a cd 40x speed and a dvd 8x speed does not mean the cd is 5 times faster. Actually at that comparision the dvd is actually faster, but it has a lot more on it so it will take longer do do whatever.

I was searching a bit and found this, though I dont know if it is accurate for conversion to all speeds.

A 52x cd drive has a data transfer rate of 7,800kb/sec.
A 16x dvd drive has a data transfer rate of 22,100kb/sec.

blondin, with you vc setup you really should get a bigger monitor, at least a 23" 1920x1200 or 1920x1080 resolution.

My main pc is still pretty much the same as the last one I listed, just a change to Windows 7 and a replacement of the monitor as it has much difficulty starting (once it does turn on it is fine but getting it to fire up is the tricky part) so I got a Hanns-G 28" monitor to replace it, I would have liked to get a 30" 2560x1600 one but since they start at $1200 I figured the extra $900 could go for other toys. Maybe towards a new build which I will likely do after the next gen cpu's come out most likely the next Intel ones which sounds like Fall at earliest.

I have built a bit of a beast of a htpc (well a beast for a htpc as those are usually small lower powered setups). It is actually somewhat similar to my main system.

Htpc build:

Processor: i7 920
Cpu Heatsink/fan: Cooler Master Hyper N520
Memory: Corsair 6GB (3 x 2GB) DDR3 (moved in from main pc and put in some faster OCZ ram of same size into main pc)
Hard Drive: 1st 1.5TB Seagate, 2nd 1.5TB Seagate
Optical Drive: 1 LITE-ON or LG dvd burner (can't recall which without looking), 1 LG GGC-H20L BDDVDRW (dvd burner, blu-ray player, hd dvd player)
Video Card: Sapphire Radeon HD 5770 1GB
Motherboard: ASRock X58 Extreme
Sound Card: Onboard
Power Supply: PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750 Quad
Speakers: Stereo setup, 2 15" woofers for main, 12" subwoofer, 2 rear, 1 center
Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Case: Cooler Master HAF 932
Keyboard: Cordless Logitech of some model
Mouse: Logitech MX Air
Monitor: 46" lcd tv - really thinking about getting a 55" led backlit lcd tv
Tv tuner/adapter: 1 ATI dual tuner (650pci), 1 Hauppauge dual tuner (1850), 1 Hauppauge analog tuner that is very soon 100% useless, 1 Ceton card as of approx June 1st (cablecard tuner 4 stream), 1 Hauppauge HD PVR

All run from pc to receiver via hdmi. Then from receiver to speakers and tv. I will add the Ceton cablecard tuner is what I am very much looking forward to getting in about 1 month, bye bye Comcast cable box as will no longer need for digital and non-clear qam hd channels (which is most all other than local channels).
